SARAH DRAMIS aka HAWAII ~ THRU HIKING GEAR & TRAIL WISDOMS

Hiking Thru Podcast Epsiode 49 Hawaii aka Sarah Dramis Inspirational Quote.png

[Forester Pass] It was the first time I just started to cry.  It was so beautiful and I was just so happy to be there.  And it was like all the overtime that I worked, all the money I saved, all the gear, all the faith and the trust.  Knowing this was right for me even though it was a crazy decision.  All of that just made sense, right then and there!

WISDOMS

THRU HIKING

• Having something to look forward to definitely helped me transition.

• Taking a break doesn’t mean that you’re not fast or strong.  It means that you’re listening to what your body needs.

• The longer I took a season off the more of a push I felt to do the CDT.

• When you break it down into smaller chunks, I think it’s easier to see the bigger picture.  And to get where you want to be.

• It’s taking the big things and making them smaller into more digestible chunks.

• I had about 2 ½ weeks on the CDT this season that I saw maybe 3 hikers on trail and it was very difficult mentally to always be the one making the decisions and always having to be route finding.  And it was definitely tormenting.  And so I feel like the trail gives you the people when you need them.

• It’s a time and a place.  And you’ve gotta trust that and recognize in other people as well.

• You’re just exhausted.  If I would think about it too much, I would kinda go down a rabbit hole but most of the time I would just be so tired that I didn’t have the energy for the “what if’s”.

• You’re going to love it, but I’m warning you its going to ruin your life.

• Don’t let everyone fearmonger you!

• [Forester Pass] It was the first time I just started to cry.  It was so beautiful and I was just so happy to be there.  And it was like all the overtime that I worked, all the money I saved, all the gear, all the faith and the trust.  Knowing this was right for me even though it was a crazy decision.  All of that just made sense, right then and there!

• I’ve never known a situation or a place that’s ever made me feel like that before.

• And it’s beautiful and it’s hard and it was challenging and it was frustrating but it was just so right.  And I think that is one of the reason why I always feel pulled to trails.

• I will continue to say yes to trails because of that feeling alone.  Cause I’ve never had that in anything else I’ve done.

• Someone told me 90% of your problems on a thru hike can be solved by just continuing to walk.

• It’s all those little things that pull you deeper to the trail.

• I think there’s something really beautiful and awesome in the simplicity of life on the trail.

• I love being around that, being in this environment where people are just always looking
out for each other.

FEET

•   If you find something that works, you gotta stick with it.

FOOD

• I live to eat on trail.
