WISDOMS
THRU HIKING
• I think if you just listen when somethings wrong.
I think I could have made it a lot worse if I had kept hiking.
• It’s really easy to feel like you need all the most expensive stuff, but I went on the Long Trail
with the stuff I’ve been using for four years… and that taught me that I don’t have to buy all new
stuff for the Appalachian Trail. I can use what I already have.
• I feel like it can be really easy to fall into the trap of thinking you need all this expensive,
brand new gear.
• I think there’s no point in doing something like this if you’re not going to try to be positive
about all these ridiculous things that end up happening.
• You can be both bummed out about and frustrated with these inconvenient and ugly things you weren’t expecting, but also kinda appreciate that that’s what makes it such an adventure in the end of the day. That’s what makes good stories anyway.
• It wouldn’t really be that much fun if it was all exactly as you expected it to be, would it?
• I want to live a lot while I’m alive. And I don’t want to wait until “when”.
When am I supposed to wait until?!
• I think we have a lot to learn about doing hard things like this that take a little bit of dedication and commitment and research and work and sacrifice. I think that makes it worth it.
• I’m going to be alright. I can try again tomorrow.
