WISDOMS
THRU HIKING
• I think once the permit system opens and you get a permit it will become more of a concrete
“this is what I’m doing”.
• If for whatever reason you are alone entering the Sierras, if there’s a water crossing that makes you uncomfortable just wait and someone will be there.
• Your relationships with people in general on trail are expedited cause you spend 24/7 with them.
• You get close to people in a very expedited, very raw way which is one of the great things about trail. Just an authentic, connected experience.
• If you have an opportunity to see Washington before the storms come in, do it!
• The benefit of having some people with you is just that some person’s bad day hopefully will be someone else’s good day and you can lift each other up.
• I didn’t go on a thru hike expecting to find community. You know I went out there thinking
this is going to be lonely. But really what was lonely is coming home.
• There’s something nice about every joy, every challenge, every part of this journey… you’re so present in that one singular experience.
• There is not a problem that will come up on trail that you won’t be able to figure out on trail.
Even if you were to leave today.
• You’re going to do as much as you can in advance but if it doesn’t look perfectly, that’s okay cause you can start trail and you can figure it out. And you’re going to be fine. And you’re not going to be alone.
• You’re capable of handling whatever comes your way.
• Keep on keeping on!
