WISDOMS
THRU HIKING
• It makes things super complicated if you’re not fully ready to be on the trail.
• If you want to successfully do something, like hike the Pacific Crest Trail, and hike it from beginning to end…you have to be fully committed and ready to be on the trail. It would be very hard to leave things that may potentially try to pull you away from the trail.
• A lot of people actually seek to do trails like this to find healing.
• Everybody’s hike is going to be different. Everyone’s going through something different.
So, I think whatever reason someone wants to hike you just have to be fully committed and
vulnerable to the process.
• There’s no instant gratification on the trail.
• This was my dream for myself and I wanted it, this experience, to be authentic to me.
• That’s what’s great about this trail (PCT) I think is that you can be as alone as you want or as around people as much as you want.
• Even if there are nights where nothing happened, just sometimes the woods are terrifying when you’re alone and its dark and there’s weird noises and you’re just freaked out for some reason.
• I think the whole point is it’s okay to be scared. You try not to let that fear dictate your life.
• The altitude does change your hiking, but you do acclimate.
• I just had grace with myself.
• The important things have gained more meaning and the trivial things have lost a
lot of their significance.
• I’ve really learned what I need to be a healthy, functional human being.
