THRU HIKING
• It’s definitely an addiction. It’s constantly calling to you.
• It changes you so much and it’s always going to be a part of you.
I just think no matter where you’re at, the trail calls to you.
• I think the hardest part of my first thru hike was being finished. Of the thousands of miles,
it was being done… and then what?
• Everytime I go back I feel just like myself. I feel like I’m home and you just don’t really get that off trail.
• It’s like breaking off a relationship you’re not ready to let go of. That’s what the end of the trail is.
• I think it’s great that trhu hikers can stick together because you need each other just as much off trail as you do on trail.
• Learning how to say yes to adventure. And saying yes to the things you really want to do.
And the moment that I said yes to myself that I was going to attempt a thru hike…
It was an incredible feeling. It was so exciting.
• The first 500 miles really is just getting your system dialled.
• It can be a painful learning curve, but that’s part of the fun.
• I would break it (hiking) up into 5 mile increments. 5 miles break, 5 miles break, 5 miles break. Then after my 15 miles I would kinda gauge where I was at, look at what the terrain was up ahead of me and then make a plan of where I wanted to stop.
• In the midst of my hiker hunger I learned how much I truly love eating and how fun it is as a woman to be able to eat literally whatever you wanted. That was a lot of fun to not care.
• It was fascinating to find out what your body is capable of and watching it changes.
• You pack your fears.
• That feeling of saying yes to yourself. That was really, really a clear moment for me that I’m going to do this more often. I’m going to let myself do what it is I really want to do.
• Be creative in the ways that you live your life after the trail. And find ways to bring it with you.
