WISDOMS

THRU HIKING

• You kinda do lose some of the ability to talk with people about it.
It’s so profound and it encompasses every part of your life and your day that there’s so many things that you want to share and so many questions that you hope people will ask that nobody’s reading your mind and they’re never going to ask you all the things.  But I would feel guilty if I talked about it too long all the time so I didn’t want to bore anybody but it’s all I wanted to talk about, every second of every day.

• Next time I know I need to be ready.  I need to have my transition back into life plan ready because I definitely feel like I became this brand new person on the trail and then took several steps backward coming home.

• You’ve come home and your piece no longer fits in the puzzle.

• It’s this weird thing of every day feeling like a magical event or two sort of just felt regular again.  And I don’t know, I wanted to feel like a superhero everyday again.

• You do just finish with just this momentum, this energy!

• You gotta say “YES” when the call comes.

• It was so wonderful to be in this experience where people are giving of themselves (trail magic and trail angels) expecting nothing in return,  That’s true generosity!  And I think that is something you so rarely come across in the world.  A stranger that is doing something for you that you didn’t ask and the only thing they expect back is appreciation.

• Sometimes it’s just really hard to imagine yourself in a space if you’ve not seen
yourself represented in it before… If you don’t see yourself represented in
something, especially something where you can feel heroic, people’s minds
don’t automatically fill themselves in that space.

• You know at some point or another unfortunately everybody is going to find themselves in a shit-storm.  You’re going to find yourself at the bottom of the bottom and you can either get trapped there or you can catapult forward because you’ve got nothing to lose.

• Prior experience gets you into the first week.
After a week, any prior experience you have has equalized…
the trail gets you in shape to hike the trail, both physically and mentally.

• I think making peace with pain before you start…it will be your friend.  It will be a constant traveling companion.

• There is something almost electric about doing something that you might fail at.
And how exciting to live your life that way.  How boring it would be to only do things that you knew were going to be cake.
