CAITLIN OLSON aka LL COOL JUNIPER ~ THRU HIKING GEAR & TRAIL WISDOMS

It’s kinda funny how the trail really simplifies your life and you kinda learn things that really seem quite obvious on the face of it.

WISDOMS

FOOD

• Eat your heaviest food first.

THRU HIKING

• It’s kinda funny how the trail really simplifies your life and you kinda learn things that really seem quite obvious on the face of it.  But I remember when one time we stopped and this was the first day I did 30 miles and we stopped and had dinner and we had like 4-5 miles to go and I remember being astounded by how much energy I had afterwards.

• We really slowed down in the Sierra, but once we got to Northern California we had to make up for lost time so we went from doing 17 miles to 25 miles a day or more as we got closer and stronger but I did not expect how much more calories I would need.  And I really bonked at some points.

• Everything will be fine.  Don’t freak out!

• I think an REI person told me this:  15 degree (sleeping bag) means you will not die at this temperature, but if you add 10 degrees to it, so 25.  25 is the coldest it can be and you still be comfortable.

• It will be fine.  You’ll figure it out. Just try to trust in yourself.

• You got this!
