BEN CRAWFORD aka THE FAMILY ~ THRU HIKING RESOURCES & TRAIL WISDOMS
THRU HIKING WISDOMS
• Having to own it made a world of difference for us later on.
• We learned on the trail very quick kids don't care about Mount Katahdin.
• What we realized in terms of parenting was that the kids liked contributing to the journey. They liked being in a position of value where they could add value and help the group.
• Often times what's keeping them from contributing was our mindset, not so much their ability.
• And even with my parenting ideas, of just seeing like "Oh, maybe I don't know what my kids are capable of. And maybe I'm holding them back more than I thought."
• You know I'd like them to know that they can do hard things, given the option.
• I really wanted our kids to know that there's a more valuable layer beneath it all.
• We had what it took to take the next step, and then we got on the next step and we needed to take the step after that. And that was the process that we signed ourselves up for.
• As long as we can take another step, we'll do that.
• Out there, my kids kinda became my heroes.
• You know what I love about the trail is you just get used to anything.
• For the first time in our lives we were devastated and excited by the same things.
