THRU HIKING
• What I had fallen in love with with thru hiking was very much the culture of the people
and the community and the tradition around the trail.
• At this point I just really found that I like being still in nature occasionally,
rather than doing these big trips.
• I knew I needed to develop that confidence. And I knew it was absurd that I hadn’t.
• What I remember most from 2017 are definitely the moments I was alone, so I am really happy I did it.
• I just feel that confidence trickles down into so many other facets of life.
• Once you’re willing to give in and skip a few miles here and there, it’s such a slippery slope.
• I think that purest ideology is both really psychologically healthy in terms of completing this giant goal. But I think it can also be problematic in terms of people policing other people’s hikes.
• For me, I think the trail provides this linear sense of purpose.
